Cryolipolysis is the controlled freezing of fat cells up to -10°C causing their destruction. Skin tissue, blood vessels and nerves are not as sensitive to cold temperatures and remain unaffected. The body removes the damaged fat cells through the lymphatic system and are naturally eliminated from the body over several weeks.

Your Sculptress therapist will mark up the area being treated and take before photos so progress can be tracked. When you’re comfortable on a treatment bed, your therapist will place a protective gel sheet onto the area to be treated. The device cup will be placed over the area, and fat will be suctioned up into the Cool Shaping cup. You will feel the area turn cold and tingly then it will go numb. After the treatment the treated area will be massaged.

Fat freezing is ideal for fit and healthy people who have stubborn pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise. Cryolipolysis cannot be used for overall weight loss.

Although fat freezing is non-invasive and pain-free it can feel a little strange. At first you will feel a strong suction as the fat tissue is drawn into the cup. As the area begins to freeze it will feel cold and you might experience a tingling sensation. After around 10 minutes the area will be completely numb and you will relax for the rest of the treatment time. When the cup is removed the area will feel very cold. Your therapist will massage the treated area and the numbness will go.

Compared to surgical liposuction the side effects of fat freezing are very minimal. There are no scars, no drains, no soreness or risk of infection.

After fat freezing you could experience bruising, localised numbness and the treated area could feel cold and firm. These side effects could last a couple of hours or several days.

Results very from person to person, however usually the best results are apparent between eight and twelve weeks. You will be invited back to Sculptress to review your results at this time.

Typically each pocket of fat will need between three and four treatments. The number of treatments required depends on the size of the fat pocket, your goals and results achieved. Five weeks after the initial treatment the area can be treated again if required. At Sculptress we can also use High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound treatment (HIFU) to sculpt your shape and achieve fat loss.

Maintaining a healthy weight is the key to your success. Fat freezing destroys fat cells in a targeted area, but not all the cells. So if you gain weight after your treatment the remaining fat cells can increase in size, adversely affecting your treatment results. We recommend you maintain a healthy weight by exercising and eating a balanced diet.
